Which Literary Monster Are You?

So tomorrow is Halloween.

It's my favorite holiday, but this year, I'll be dressing up as a housekeeper as I do my laundry and clean my house for the upcoming Christmas Season.

At midnight, I'll be in front of my computer, typing up 1667 words for my NaNoWriMo novel. We'll talk about that another time.

Today's post is a fun quiz, courtesy of Grammarly, for you all to try:

                                                  Which Literary Monster Are You?

Here are my results:

Pennywise is only one manifestation of the terrifyingly adaptable alien monster It. The title character of Stephen King's "It" has the ability to morph into any number of beings in order to lure in victims and to appropriately terrify them prior to feasting. It is most horrifically remembered as the disturbing clown Pennywise, who would draw children close to him with this disguise before attacking the innocents.

This result is funny since I'm terrified of clowns and IT was the most terrifying book I've ever read. I'm sure there's some kind of psychological link between the quiz result and my inner fears.

In any case, I'm curious which 'monsters' read my blog, so be sure to share your results in the comments.

Have a Happy Halloween!

Fun Facts about Candy Corn

October 30th is National Candy Corn Day!!

It's that time of year--when children of all ages go house to house dressed in costumes of their favorite superheroes, villains, and monsters. When parents raid their children's goody bags for all the best candy. (My favorite was Snickers. I told my kid they had peanut butter in it, and that she didn't like peanut butter.) When every store stocks its shelves with bags of candy, especially candy corn.

Made from sugar, corn syrup, carnauba wax and water, the candy corn is either loved or hated. Now that I'm older, I could take it or leave it, but it is one of the iconic symbols of Halloween. Each piece of candy corn is approximately three times the size of a real corn kernel, and each serving contains about 130 calories.

Each year, Americans consume enough candy corn to circle the Earth 4.25 times. Personally, I liked to eat them one at a time, biting off each color separately. This year, there will be 9 billion colorful little kernels produced.

--Did you know that Hersheys's made Candy Corn Kisses?

They are discontinued, but there is a Facebook page asking for them to come back. Check it out! Bring Back Hershey's Candy Corn Kisses There are only 39 fans, but maybe we can all like the page and get them to come back for next Halloween.

--Did you know there are things you can make from your leftover candy corn? Click on the photo for 9 yummy recipes.

--How about a recipe for bars that look like candy corn?

--And of course, what's a party without candy corn Jello shots? They seem like a lot of work, but if you MUST make them, here's a great recipe!

Now I'm getting hungry. What about you? Do you like candy corn?

Trick-or-Treating, Costume Parties, and RSVPs

Since we live in the country, we don't get many trick-or-treaters. As a matter of fact, we haven't had one child ring our doorbell in the past 5 years. Since the town's Halloween Parade runs right down the center of Main Street, the residents in that area get hit the hardest. Our local A&P actually accepts candy bag donations for the homes there. Then, parents will drive to a development with a big cluster of homes and tire out their children in one area. I find it disappointing. I love to see children in costume. I guess I'll have to wait until the grandkids show up for their treats.

We recently attended my girlfriend's amazing 50th birthday bash. Costumes were mandatory. While most people moan and groan at those three little words, I was ecstatic. I love dressing up in costume!

If you didn't know, I'm a huge fan of Johnny Depp, but a real FanGirl when it comes to him in the Captain Jack Sparrow role. I got the idea that John could dress up as Capt. Jack, and I would dress as Angelica, from On Stranger Tides.

I figured that since the movie came out in 2011, the pirate fad was over and there wouldn't be too many of the same costumes. I was wrong. I think there were about 10 different pirates at the party. It felt like we were in Penzance.

I promised I'd post a photo of our costumes.

Johnny and Penelope? Definitely not.

Now, since nobody RSVPd to my Costume Party Post, no one won the prize of 31 More Nights of Halloween. Oh well, maybe next year.

I hope Sandy didn't ruin your fun.

Did you go trick-or-treating this year? Did you wear a costume?

A Costume Party With Prizes!

Halloween Lights

Halloween is 13 days away! It's my favorite holiday. Yup, even more than Christmas. I LOVE dressing up and I just squee with delight when I see little children in costume.

This year, John and I are going to my friend's 50th birthday bash. Costumes mandatory. Know what we're dressing up as?

Captain Jack Sparrow and

Angelica

Of course, we won't look exactly like them, but we can pretend. I'll post the photos after the party.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun for all of us to have a Costume Party!

Here are The Rules:

1. Dig out a photo of yourself dressed up in your favorite costume.

2. E-mail it to me at deestan62 at gmail dot com. (My address is written that way to confuse spammers.)

3. I will post the photos to my Facebook Author Page.

Here is The Prize:

The photo that gets the most 'likes' by midnight on October 30th will win a Kindle copy of 31 More Nights of Halloween.

Doesn't that sound like fun? Invite your friends to join in and make sure you tell them to vote for your photo.

Happy Halloween!!

Halloween Theme

At this time of year, the internet is inundated with Halloween trivia, tips for safe trick or treating, costume ideas, and spooky stories. Halloween is my favorite holiday. Yup, I like it even better than Christmas.

There are no presents to buy, no holiday dinner to stress over, and no to-do lists. Sure, you HAVE to buy candy for the trick or treaters, but I don't consider it a chore. In fact, I look forward to buying huge bags of my favorites, anticipating a large amount left over. :)

Halloween Candy

For me, Halloween is all about FUN! It's caramel apples and costume parties and crunchy leaves and lots of orange and creepy decorations. Halloween is the one holiday that 'too much' is never too much.

Halloween Autumn Theme

And the costumes! I love the costumes. I can be a butterfly and skip around, fluttering my pretty wings.
Eric+Carle+Butterfly+Toddler+/+Child+Costume

I can be a witch with green skin and a large ugly wart on my nose, cackling at the moon (and scaring the crap out of my cat.)

Deluxe Wicked Witch - Adult Costume

I can be a fortune teller in a long skirt and a peasant blouse, and gaze into my crystal ball while I tell your future in broken English, read your palm and consult my  tarot cards.
Divination Cards

I can even be a pirate wench and imagine sailing the open seas with Captain Jack Sparrow aboard the Black Pearl in thigh-high boots and fishnet stockings.

(Yummy)
Oh, wait...I do that all year.

Anyway, Halloween is MAGIC! What other time of year can you use your imagination and be whatever you want to be? (without people looking at you like you're crazy.)

What or who will you be today?
